Lemonade Gets Florida Auto Program Approval

Lemonade has received Florida regulatory approval for a new private passenger auto insurance program, with pricing based largely on Progressive’s approved Florida rates and rules, supplemented by Lemonade’s own models.

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation issued its approval letter on October 28, recording August 26, 2026 as the effective date for new and renewal business. The filing does not establish a public launch date.

The program incorporates Lemonade’s telematics, vehicle identification number and territory models, alongside a credit model supported by LexisNexis. Separate approval letters for the four supporting model filings were also issued October 28.

Lemonade describes its target customers as responsible, tech-savvy drivers interested in telematics and its other insurance products. The pricing structure combines Progressive’s framework with Lemonade-specific factors intended to reflect driving behavior, vehicle characteristics and garaging location.

Approval followed extensive revisions. According to the regulator’s review summary, Lemonade removed several proposed rating tables because of insufficient support, revised others, added mapping tables and adjusted its target rate level. Underwriting guidelines and policy rules were also amended for clarity and compliance with Florida law.

The regulator requested additional validation to assess whether combining Progressive’s rating structure with Lemonade’s models produced appropriate pricing at both the overall and customer-segment levels.
