Kansas Questions Cincinnati’s No-Cost Water Leak and Temperature Sensor Endorsements

Cincinnati Insurance has introduced two new endorsements for its Commercial Output Program in Kansas that apply when policyholders install water detection or temperature sensing devices at insured properties. The endorsements would be attached at no additional cost and establish requirements for maintaining, monitoring, and responding to alerts generated by the devices.

The water detection endorsement applies to devices designed to detect the presence of water and help prevent leaks or reduce resulting damage. The temperature sensing endorsement applies to devices that monitor temperature fluctuations beyond acceptable ranges. Under both endorsements, insureds must maintain the devices, report malfunctions, respond to alerts, and avoid disabling or tampering with the equipment.

However, the filing encountered resistance from Kansas regulators. In an objection letter issued on June 3, 2026, the Kansas Insurance Department questioned why the endorsements do not include a corresponding premium reduction, noting that insureds appear to be taking steps that reduce risk exposure. Regulators also requested clarification regarding which lines of coverage the endorsements apply to.

The filing was disapproved and not filed pending Cincinnati’s response. The insurer has until 30 days from the objection date to provide additional information or revise the filing.

The endorsements are intended for use with Cincinnati’s Commercial Output Program property coverage and were requested to become effective August 1, 2026.
