Kanguro Opens Up Accident Only Pet Coverage in Nevada

Kanguro is clearing the way to actually sell its Accident Only pet plan in Nevada.

The Miami-based insurtech, which underwrites through Cimarron Insurance Company, filed a rule revision on June 17 to remove the restrictions that had boxed in its Accident Only product. The filing touches three rating tables.

Previously, Accident Only coverage was offered with only a $100 deductible and a single $5,000 annual limit. Kanguro is removing both footnotes, so the full menu of deductibles ($0 to $1,500) and annual limits ($2,000 to Unlimited) now applies to Accident Only buyers — the same options available on the Accident & Illness plan. A third change adds a footnote fixing the Accident Only age factor at 1.00, meaning age won’t drive price on the accident-only product the way it does on the comprehensive plan, where the oldest dogs carry a 4.83 factor.

The Accident Only base rate stays at $130 against $470 for Accident & Illness. No rating changes were made to the comprehensive product.

The headline premium impact is 0.0%, and the reason is telling: Kanguro has no in-force Accident Only policies in Nevada. This is a product Kanguro launched but effectively never sold in the state.
