Homesite Drops Automatic Credit Score Refreshes

Homesite, part of American Family, filed a rule change in Kansas that would eliminate the automatic retrieval of a policyholder’s insurance risk score at renewal for its homeowners and renters programs. The filing would apply to new business beginning November 20, 2026, and renewals beginning January 7, 2027.

Under the proposed rules, Homesite would continue to obtain an insurance risk score when a policy is first written. However, instead of automatically requesting an updated score at renewal, the company would only retrieve a new score if the insured or agent requests it before the renewal offer is issued. The updated score would be applied only if it results in a lower premium.

According to the filing memorandum, the change is procedural and has no rating impact, as it simply discontinues the automatic re-call of insurance risk scores at renewal while preserving customers’ ability to request a refreshed score.

The filing applies to Homesite’s Homeowners and Renters programs in Kansas.
