Generali filed a new Host Vacation Rental Property Coverage program in Texas, submitting policy forms for a group-based inland marine travel insurance product designed for short-term rental platforms.
The program is structured as group travel insurance, with the online vacation rental platform serving as the policyholder and individual hosts electing coverage when their properties are booked. Coverage applies only during active stays and is limited to damage caused by guests or their invitees.
The policy provides property coverage for residential dwellings used as vacation rentals, other structures on the premises, and personal property, along with limited coverage for stationary motor vehicles and watercraft located at the host accommodation. Included benefits also cover lock replacement and excess cleaning expenses, while lost rental income is available when future stays are canceled due to covered damage, subject to time and dollar limits.
Generali also included an optional Rental Income Chargeback Coverage endorsement, which reimburses hosts for rental income forfeited due to confirmed credit card chargebacks tied to fraud or unauthorized transactions. The filing excludes coverage for weather events, natural disasters, owner-caused damage, high-value personal items, and properties owned by publicly traded entities, REITs, or hotel operators.
The product was developed specifically for an online accommodations reservation service.
Coverage limits apply on a per-stay basis, and premiums are charged per stay night based on rates outlined in the accompanying manual.
