Farmers Withdraws Wildfire Mitigation Endorsement

Farmers Insurance Exchange, Fire Insurance Exchange, and Mid-Century Insurance Company have filed to withdraw their “Wildfire Mitigation Response Service Endorsement” (Form 94-3658 1st Ed.) from homeowners policies in California.

The endorsement, introduced in 2022, was part of the Farmers Smart Plan Home and Next Generation Homeowners programs and provided a range of wildfire mitigation services in the event of an impending wildfire threat. These services included debris removal, sealing of vents, clearing vegetation, setting up sprinklers, and applying fire-resistant gel.

According to the filing, Farmers no longer has a vendor to perform these services, prompting the company to discontinue the form effective January 21, 2026. The endorsement had made clear that the services were not guaranteed to prevent wildfire damage and could be modified or discontinued without notice. It also provided limited coverage for property damage caused during the delivery of mitigation services, subject to standard policy terms.

The filing was submitted to the California Department of Insurance under SERFF Tracking #FARM-134541078.
