Farmers Updates Billing Fees for Maryland Boatowners Policies

Farmers Property and Casualty Insurance Company has filed to revise the billing structure for its Boatowners insurance product in Maryland. Submitted on July 14, 2025, the filing proposes updates to payment plans and associated fees, with an effective date of September 1, 2025, for new and renewal business.

The changes focus on aligning installment billing fees with those used across Farmers’ broader Personal Lines program. Under the proposed rules, a $2.00 fee will apply to each installment made via autopay bank transfer, while autopay credit card payments will carry a $5.00 fee. Additional existing fees include a $4.00 installment charge for the second and subsequent payments and a $20.00 non-sufficient funds fee. No late fees are applied.

These adjustments mark the first material billing update in over a decade for the broader ARS program, which had over 3.8 million policies in force as of 2024.
