Elephant Proposes Rate-Neutral Auto Filing in Tennessee

Elephant Insurance has filed changes to its Tennessee personal auto rates and rules that would leave the overall premium impact on its existing book at 0%. The filing covers 1,007 policyholders and approximately $2.7 million in written premium.

The proposal shifts rates among coverages. Elephant estimates a 10.6% increase for property damage liability, offset in part by decreases of 6.5% for collision and 6.3% for other than collision coverage. Across all coverages, the company’s actuarial indication is a 6.1% decrease, though its proposed overall change is zero.

Elephant also wants to revise its rate-capping factors to keep renewal prices more stable. A separate change to new-business tier placement would affect future policies only, according to the company.
