CMT Files Updated Telematics Scoring Model in Rhode Island

Cambridge Mobile Telematics has filed its Premium Score v1.2 in Rhode Island, offering insurers an updated version of its DriveWell telematics rating model. The submission, effective December 22, 2025 for both new and renewal business, carries a neutral 0 percent rate impact and does not replace the previously approved v1.1 model from 2022.

The filing outlines how DriveWell assigns risk scores using smartphone-based telematics data and provides insurers with corresponding indicated factors — from 1.838 for drivers scoring 1–20 to 0.542 for scores 81–100. CMT positions the scoring algorithm as a highly sensitive trade secret, arguing that disclosure would allow competitors to replicate its analytics and partnerships.

The model is licensed to participating insurers (“Members or Subscribers”) under Rule UBI-v2023. CMT notes that earlier versions of its Premium Score have been approved by 49 Departments of Insurance. The filing was submitted through First Consulting & Administration, and CMT is domiciled in Delaware.
