American Modern Home Insurance Company is discontinuing its Recreational Vehicle Rental Program in Oregon due to ongoing profitability challenges, changes in market dynamics, and the departure of key personnel. As of year-end 2024, the program had $182,737 in written premium and served 46 policyholders in the state. Originally driven by a specialized agent with deep knowledge of the RV rental space, the program struggled following that individual’s retirement and the acquisition of their agency. The company also cited the rise of peer-to-peer rental platforms as a contributing factor to the program’s decline.
The company filed its intent to exit the market on July 23, 2025, and plans to stop writing new business on December 1, 2025. Policies expiring on or after that date will not be renewed, with at least sixty days’ notice given to affected policyholders. American Modern determined that a complete product overhaul would be necessary to restore viability, but found no business justification to proceed.
