American Modern Property and Casualty Insurance Company submitted a filing in Wisconsin on March 3, 2026 requesting rate and rule revisions for its dwelling program.
The proposed changes would result in an overall rate increase of 4.7%, affecting 13,647 policyholders and a book of business totaling $16.7 million in written premium. The new rates are scheduled to take effect July 15, 2026 for new business and September 6, 2026 for renewals.
According to the filing, the insurer evaluated rate adequacy using rolling 12 month accident year data, a method designed to capture recent loss trends more quickly than traditional multi year analyses. The company also incorporated modeled loss ratios for severe convective storms and earthquakes when assessing catastrophe exposure.
One notable element in the filing is that the indicated rate change for the Dwelling Basic program was actually a decrease of 7.2%, yet the insurer selected a positive change for the overall program, resulting in the requested increase.
The filing follows a 5.8% rate increase implemented July 16, 2025, indicating that American Modern continues to adjust pricing as it reassesses loss trends and catastrophe risk in the state.
