TruStage subsidiary CUMIS Insurance Society has introduced an optional generative artificial intelligence exclusion as part of a rewrite of its property and business liability program for credit unions.
The endorsement excludes bodily injury, property damage, personal injury and advertising injury arising from generative AI. It defines generative AI as a machine-based learning system or model trained on data and capable of creating content or responses, including text, images, audio, video or code.
Other changes include a new blanket earthquake coverage schedule, an endorsement adding a mortgagee, assignee or receiver as an additional insured, and a designated-location aggregate limit endorsement. CUMIS also revised its business liability coverage to add or modify exclusions and introduce a definition of “cyber incident.”
The Utah filing was submitted on July 30 and filed for use on August 3. The changes are scheduled to take effect for new and renewal business on April 1, 2027.
Bottom Line: AI may be generating more content, but CUMIS doesn’t want it generating liability.
