TruStage subsidiary American Memorial Life Insurance Company is adding services from Empathy to eligible Evolving Life Insurance policies.

The no-cost rider, which will be automatically attached to eligible policies, provides beneficiaries with a dedicated care manager, estate and financial administration assistance, and non-clinical grief support following the insured’s death. Policyholders will also have access to estate-planning tools for creating digital wills, powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives.

Vermont initially declined the filing over a provision waiving TruStage’s liability for services provided by third-party vendors. The regulator said policyholders could be forced to litigate with vendors to receive services they had already purchased. TruStage removed the waiver while noting that the services are provided at no cost. The filing was approved on August 7.

TruStage states that information collected through the services will not be used to change an insured’s risk classification or as the sole basis for denying a reinstatement request.
