Root Updates Tennessee Mileage Factors

Root has filed updates to its Tennessee private-passenger auto program, revising annualized-mileage factors and policy-tier mapping while removing its rideshare and delivery surcharge from comprehensive coverage.

The filing is rate-neutral overall, with no change to Root’s aggregate rate level or its rate level for any individual coverage. However, policyholder impacts will vary, ranging from a 12.6% decrease to a 16% increase.

The change affects 8,316 policies representing about $21.2 million in written premium. Root said the revised mileage factors are intended to improve segmentation, using loss experience from markets where annualized mileage rating is in place.

Root’s support shows elevated rideshare loss ratios in most coverages, but not comprehensive. The insurer therefore retained a 1.5 rideshare factor for non-comprehensive indemnity coverages and set the comprehensive factor at 1.0.

The company requested implementation for new business written on or after August 31, 2026, and renewals effective on or after October 3, 2026.
