Openly Revises Homeowners Claims Terms in Virginia

Rock Ridge filed changes to Openly’s homeowners insurance program in Virginia, revising claim-reporting deadlines and several loss-settlement provisions.

Under the revised endorsement, wind and hail claims must be reported within one year of the loss, while claims involving other perils must be reported within two years.

The filing also broadens coverage for matching undamaged property to achieve a reasonably uniform appearance and increases the Coverage C recoverable depreciation threshold from $500 to $1,000. Policyholders generally have one year from the insurer’s initial actual-cash-value payment to document repairs and recover withheld depreciation, extended to two years when the property is in an area subject to a state-of-emergency declaration.

Openly is also introducing a one-year deadline for reporting supplemental damage and costs.

The company is seeking an October 8, 2026, effective date for new business and December 8, 2026, for renewals.
