Obsidian Insurance Company has filed a new electronic equipment insurance program in Nevada for distribution through retailers. The coverage can include theft, loss, mechanical or electrical breakdown, accidental damage from handling, and screen damage, depending on the plan selected.

Under the proposed structure, each retailer would hold a master policy and choose the coverage offered to customers. Nevada residents who enroll would receive a certificate of insurance. Premiums could be paid monthly or for a one- or two-year term.

The filing covers devices such as phones, laptops, home electronics, wearables, and smart home equipment. Obsidian says the certificate forms are based on forms previously approved in Nevada for Universal Underwriters Insurance Company. The filing remains open with the state.
