BMW of North America is preparing to offer a vehicle service contract for high-mileage MINI vehicles in Washington.

The MINI Motoring Protection High Mileage Vehicle Service Contract is designed to be sold after the vehicle purchase, including after the original manufacturer’s warranty has expired. In those cases, coverage begins after the earlier of 30 days or 1,000 miles. The waiting period is added to the contract’s scheduled expiration, meaning customers do not lose any of their purchased coverage term.

The plan covers specified powertrain components, including the engine, transmission, transaxle, transfer case, and drive axle. It also covers breakdowns resulting from normal wear and tear, along with related diagnostic work, fluids, and lubricants.

Additional benefits include rental car reimbursement of up to $45 per day for 10 days, roadside assistance of up to $100 per incident, and trip interruption coverage of up to $1,000 when a breakdown occurs more than 100 miles from the customer’s home.

Certain light commercial uses are permitted, including vehicles used for real estate, home healthcare, cleaning, light delivery, rideshare, and snow removal. Taxi, limousine, daily rental, heavy hauling, emergency-service, and similar uses are excluded.

BMW of North America serves as the obligor, while Safe-Guard Products International will administer the program. In certain states, the obligations are backed by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, an Assurant company; elsewhere, they are backed by BMW’s full faith and credit.

The Washington filing was submitted on August 17 and remains under review. BMW requested that the program become effective upon approval.
