Fremont Seeks Michigan Auto Increase amid higher indication

Fremont Insurance Company filed a personal auto rate update in Michigan, effective July 1, 2026, for both new and renewal business.

The filing requests a 5.1% overall rate increase affecting 64,497 policyholders and approximately $194.4 million in written premium, despite a significantly higher indicated need of 31%. The changes revise preferred customer discounts, adjust point surcharges, and introduce a new AAA membership discount.

The company will also begin assigning points for not at fault and comprehensive claims to address adverse impacts on the zero point loss ratio.

The selected increase follows a 4.4% rate change that took effect in July 2025 and may indicate additional rate pressure ahead.
