Capital Insurance Group Seeks 15.8% Increase for California BOP

Capital Insurance Group has filed for a 15.8% overall rate increase for its California businessowners program through California Capital Insurance Company and Monterey Insurance Company.

The filing lists 10,781 affected policyholders and approximately $295.8 million in written premium across the two insurers. Individual premium impacts range from decreases of nearly 50% to increases of approximately 132%.

Alongside the increase, the companies propose changes to rating factors, classifications and other elements of the pricing structure, plus what the filing describes as “targeted product enhancements.” The supplied documents do not detail those enhancements.

The proposed increase follows an 11.3% overall rate revision effective January 15, 2026. The companies are requesting July 1, 2027 implementation for both new and renewal business.

Submitted October 18, the filing remains under review by the California Department of Insurance.
