BHSI Revises Firearm Exclusions Following Broker Feedback

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company is revising two exclusions used in its Outdoor Sports Program in New Jersey after brokers raised concerns about their potentially broad application.

The updated endorsements exclude claims connected to the insured’s activities involving unserialized firearms and receivers, commonly known as ghost guns, or devices designed to increase a firearm’s rate of fire.

BHSI added the word “insured’s” to clarify that the exclusions apply only to the policyholder’s ownership, use, manufacture, distribution, sale, repair, advertising and other specified activities. The insurer described the revisions as clarifications rather than changes that broaden or restrict coverage.

Both endorsements will carry no premium impact. BHSI requested an effective date of November 1, 2026, for new and renewal business. The file-and-use filing remains pending with New Jersey regulators.
