American Pet Insurance Company filed a rate update in New Mexico for its Aflac-branded pet health insurance program, effective June 1, 2026, for both new and renewal business.
The filing requests a 20% overall rate increase through revisions to base rates and breed, age, and gender factors. The company cited rising veterinary costs driven by hospital consolidation and increasing labor expenses.
The program currently lacks credible experience in the state and relies in part on trend data from the Trupanion pet health insurance program, which also supports administration and technology.
The product includes telehealth services within the monthly premium and is offered both as a voluntary worksite benefit and directly to consumers. The increase follows a prior 15% rate change that took effect in January 2025.
