ProAssurance and the MDVIP Risk Purchasing Group Association have mutually agreed to discontinue their physician insurance program after more than a decade, according to an Oregon regulatory filing.
ProAssurance submitted the filing on October 28 to withdraw the program’s Oregon forms and rules, with a requested effective date of February 1, 2027. The insurer said the MDVIP program has no in-force policies in Oregon, does not currently offer coverage there and has no plans to do so.
The withdrawal includes physician and medical corporation applications, profit-sharing and retirement provision endorsements, and a rule offering eligible MDVIP physicians a 15% credit to the base rate. Eligibility requirements included participation in MDVIP practice protocols and joint risk management activities.
The MDVIP Risk Purchasing Group Association is a risk purchasing group whose policies are underwritten by ProAssurance, part of The Doctors Company.
The insurer described the Oregon withdrawal as administrative and said it is not withdrawing from the state or discontinuing its insurance products there.
The filing remains pending and does not specify when the broader program discontinuation will take effect.
