MS Transverse Introduces Texas Dwelling Fire Program

TRM Specialty Insurance Company, part of MS Transverse, received approval in Texas for a new dwelling fire endorsement filing tied to its upcoming dwelling fire program, with the filing relying heavily on previously approved Trisura Insurance Company forms and endorsements.

The filing, submitted by Wellington Risk Insurance Agency, includes a mix of mandatory, optional, and conditionally mandatory endorsements covering roof exclusions, named windstorm deductibles, water damage limitations, liability coverage, and cyber exclusions.

The filing shows TRM adopting a stricter underwriting posture around roof-related risks. One conditional endorsement automatically applies replacement cost limitations when roofs are 16 years or older or based on roof condition. Another endorsement excludes windstorm, hurricane, and hail damage to roofs that fail underwriting guidelines. The filing states properties with ineligible roofs may only qualify for coverage if the roof exclusion endorsement is attached.

TRM also introduced mandatory named windstorm deductibles for certain higher-risk tiers. According to the conditional mandatory list, the endorsement becomes mandatory for Tier 1 and Tier 2 policies when wind or hail deductibles are below 2%.

Texas regulators requested several revisions during the review process, including corrections to endorsement names, edition dates, and usage classifications. Regulators also challenged whether certain referenced Trisura filings could be adopted directly. TRM responded by clarifying that only the updated Special Provisions endorsement filing would ultimately be referenced.

The filing additionally includes endorsements related to vacancy, water backup, rental liability, virus and disease exclusions, cyber act exclusions, and claim-based premium surcharges. One surcharge endorsement allows TRM to apply renewal premium increases following chargeable claims excluding natural catastrophe events.

The associated policy filing remains pending, while underwriting guidelines were submitted separately. A related rate filing was expected to follow within weeks of the endorsement submission.
