Mile Auto Proposes Texas Odometer Reporting Changes

Mile Auto has filed to revise odometer reporting rules for its Texas auto insurance program, underwritten by Cimarron Insurance, to help prevent cancellations when customers fail to submit an initial reading.

Under the proposed rules, pay-per-mile customers would have up to three days from the policy’s effective date to provide an initial odometer reading. Missing readings would trigger mileage charges based on 40 miles per day, calculated from the effective date. Policies would remain subject to underwriting cancellation under the policy contract. The same procedure would apply to newly added or replacement vehicles.

For subsequent billing cycles, customers who miss a required reading would also be charged using the 40-mile daily default. If a valid reading arrives before the end of the next billing cycle within the policy term, Mile Auto would adjust the mileage bill.

The filing also clarifies its Unlimited billing option, which uses a fixed premium regardless
