Hippo Lowers Personal Property Coverage Minimum in New York

Spinnaker Insurance Company has updated its New York homeowners program distributed through Hippo, lowering the personal property coverage minimum required for replacement cost coverage.

Eligible properties can now qualify with personal property coverage equal to at least 50% of dwelling coverage, down from 70%. For a home insured for $500,000, that lowers the minimum from $350,000 to $250,000, giving customers more flexibility in selecting coverage.

The filing also clarifies documents accepted in place of an inspection and updates wording in affinity and multiple-policy discount rules. Hippo says those wording changes have no adverse impact on existing customers’ rates, underwriting or coverage.

New York regulators acknowledged the filing on October 22, 2026, with effective dates of October 22 for new business and November 7 for renewals.
