Golden Bear Launches Firearm Liability Program in California

Golden Bear Insurance introduced a new personal firearm liability program in California, developed in response to San Jose’s Gun Harm Reduction Ordinance and the anticipated statewide SB 8 bill. The program covers accidental bodily injury and property damage from legally owned firearms.

Filed June 26, 2025, the program includes base rates by weapon type (e.g., $50 for handguns at $15K limits), optional add-ons like hunting and criminal defense coverage, and a $15 annual policy fee. TRIA charges apply at 5% of premium. The projected earned premium is $200K.

Rate calculations reference data from PIRE, American Bankers, and Response Indemnity.
